It's been weeks now. The skies are still red all over the world. The world's militaries are attempting to keep the extra dimensional minions of Xzbytb at bay. No one has seen any of the Guild members for days. The media is beginning to speculate that our parents...my parents are dead. Some of the other kids here at Mrs. Callahan's are starting to believe it too. Dylan and Erin have been inconsolable. Dylan shape-changed into a paper-weight and Erin has just been crying non-stop since the Guild disappeared from the battlefield. Scott and Michelle have been taking it pretty hard, with good reason, if any of the Guild members lives were in danger I have to believe that their Mom, Tiger Claw, is a prime candidate. Although she is a well respected member of the Guild and probably the world's foremost martial artist, she is the only member of the Guild with no super-powers at all. She's the "Batman"
Yesterday we were all watching the news and the newscaster was reporting about how the Guild of Heroes hadn't been seen for days and without a touch of emotion in his voice Mickey said, "So when we takeover for the Guild I think I should be the leader."
Everyone was stunned. Sure, we are all in training to become the next generation of superheroes (Except for maybe Bobby "the worm boy". Communicating with worms is not a powerful crime-fighting tool) but we are OK with being the "next generation". He acted not only like he knew that our parents were dead but that he didn't care. Plus there is absolutely no way under any circumstance that I would ever be led by that guy.
He has even been taking his training in the Pit more seriously since we got here as if he is preparing for something. Yesterday in a sparring session he kicked Dan's ass. That's never happened before. Dan is seriously one of the more powerful members of our little group. His ability to emit blasts of explosive energy from his hands makes him a powerhouse. If not for my near invulnerability I'm sure Dan would kick my ass. As it is I know that when we spar he doesn't dial his abilities all the way up to 11, so I don't know maybe he could kick my ass.
Yesterday, however, was something completely new. I've never seen Mickey with such control over his fire manipulation abilities before and despite how powerful Dan is he's not invulnerable. Mickey had him completely overwhelmed by his flames within seconds. Dan didn't even get a chance to fight back before he was curled up in a ball begging Mickey to stop. The thing is Mickey didn't stop immediately when he had Dan on the ground. Mrs. Callahan had to douse the pit with flame retardant foam from the control booth. When it was over I rushed to Dan's aid and Mikey just walked out of the training center with a little smirk on his face.
That evening I saw him talking to Suzie...and she seemed to be enjoying it. Maybe I read to much into their conversation. After all, I couldn't here what they were saying. They could have been talking about anything. I just refuse to believe that no matter how long we are locked up in this house that Suzie could ever find Mickey to be cute. I'm almost as surprised that the thought of Suzie with Mickey bothers me as much as it does.
